Concert Clothes

Something that I might spend too much time trying to figure out is what I want to wear to a concert. It may seem silly because during the concert no one will be able to see your clothes, but it matters to me. To some people, it’s not important. But if you are like me and would stand too long in front of your closet, thinking, “What should I wear to this concert?” the short answer is, whatever you want. Of course there’s a long answer, too. Here are some of my recommendations when it comes to concert attire.

Be Comfortable

I would say this is a top priority for picking concert clothes. Wear clothes you feel comfortable in. You will most likely be on your feet a lot, so definitely wear comfortable shoes. I have never understood people who wear skinny, high heels. You do you, but if one of your worries is not being able to see over people, I recommend wearing sensible shoes that also give you a little height. I have worn Converse to almost every single concert I’ve gone to. They’re comfortable, close-toed (which can be helpful for general admission sections), and they go with just about every outfit.

Be Conscious of the Temperature

Whether it’s summer or winter, indoors or outdoors, it usually ends up being warm at a concert. There’s so many people, and if you’re one to dance and jump around, you will probably be sweating. In summer, my go to outfit is usually shorts and some kind of tank top, especially if it is an outdoor venue. For inside concerts during fall or winter I usually go with jeans. If it’s a concert where you have a seat, a normal jacket is fine, but if it’s a general admission concert, something like a flannel or a jean jacket is better. It will keep you warm if you have to wait in any lines outside but it’s also not too bulky or too hot to keep on during the concert.

POCKETS

Wearing something with pockets can be very helpful at concerts. A couple summers ago I wore a cute pair of shorts to a concert that didn’t have pockets and I didn’t realize how much I relied on them until I didn’t have them. There have been several times I’ve wanted to wear a simple summer dress to a concert but I decided against it because there were no pockets.

Band Tee Shirt? Go For It!

I have never understood this idea that one shouldn’t wear an artist’s merch to their concert. It just doesn’t make sense to me. While I don’t really do it anymore, I did it all the time when I was younger. It really saved me the struggle of picking out a concert outfit. I like the idea of wearing the artist or band tee shirt and dressing it up with something more, like a jean jacket or a cardigan. If anyone ever tells you that you can’t wear the artist’s shirt to the concert, please do not listen to them. Try telling that to sports fans who go to sporting events and see what they say. When I think about this, I think about this Tumblr post that perfectly describes my feelings.

Be Appropriate

Take into account the audience of the artist. If you know the fanbase is mostly younger people and you’re an outlier in terms of age, be mindful of that when choosing your outfit. Even if it is a concert with an all-adult audience, be conscious of your choices and don’t wear anything too crazy or anything that could get you in trouble.

Be a Fan of Your Outfit

This may seem like a weird recommendation, but make sure YOU like what you’re wearing. Don’t worry about what everyone else will think. If you feel comfortable in it and it doesn’t offend anyone, go ahead and wear it. Also, if you’re one who likes to take pictures with your friends beforehand, definitely make sure you like the way your outfit looks!
